A Bowen Treatment

A Bowen Treatment

A Bowen treatment lasts about 30-45 minutes. Most work can be performed through light clothing. No oils are used.

During a session Bowen, the practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to the rolling-type moves to make on different muscles in the body. There are times when the practitioner actually leaves the room. During the breaks, the body has time to help relieve his own settings, the tension and pain.

Many people experience pain after just one session. Two or three treatments are usually enough to achieve long-lasting relief. Even long-term conditions respond very quickly.

The ideal situation is to give the Bowen Technique to try for 3 sessions, once a week, in between without any other type of body work.

On The Day of the Treatment

1 MOVE the pain from the body

Immediately after the meeting, go out and make a 15 to 20 minute walk.
For the rest of the day, do not sit too long.
Get up to every 30 minutes and walk around a bit.

2 Rinse the PAIN out of your body
Drink 8-10 glasses of water to flush the toxins from your body.

3 TAKE IT EASY
Avoid heavy lifting or exercise.

4 AVOID extreme heat or cold
No heating pads, ice packs, hot showers or hot baths.

5 KEEP your feet together
Put your weight on both feet when you get up out of bed, a chair or a car.

This will help to bring balance back into the body.

The Week After the Treatment

1 WALK
Continue to walk at least 20 minutes per day, or take two or three short walks. This helps clean the body's "pumping" and move the pain out.

2 CONTINUE they simply take
Reserve your energy for the healing of your body.

3 Drink plenty of water
Drink 8-10 glasses a day to flush the pain.

4 Avoid body WORKING FOR A WEEK
Your body will continue to heal over the next week. Any form of body work, also a back massage, can "short-circuit" the healing process.

5 AVOID extreme heat or cold
No ice packs, heating pads, hot showers or hot baths.

6 Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables, "calm" the body and help to relieve pain

The Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique helps the body remember how to heal itself.   The gentle yet powerful Bowen moves send neurological impulses to the brain resulting in immediate responses of muscle relaxation and pain reduction.  The moves create energy surges.  Electrical impulses sent to the nervous system remind the body to regain normal movement in joints, muscles and tendons.   This helps relieve muscle spasms and increase blood and lymph flow.
The Bowen Technique affects the body primarily through the nervous and the bioenergetic systems, to bring it into a state of balance.
Autonomic nervous system rebalancing
The autonomic nervous system controls over 80% of bodily functions (cardiac, respiratory, peripheral circulation, reproductive, endocrine, gastrointestinal) and is very susceptible to stress and emotional tensions. For healing to happen, the body needs to shift from sympathetic (fight/ flight mode) to parasympathetic (vegetative mode) dominance. For this to happen, it needs time and space to literally unwind and "digest" physical and emotional stress. The Bowen Technique facilitates these positive shifts.
Stretch Reflex
Most Bowen moves are done either at the origin, insertion or belly of muscles, where the Golgi and Spindle nerve receptors are located. These receptors inform the nervous system of the state of tension, length or stretch in the muscles and tendons and are stimulated during the rolling part of the Bowen therapy movement.
Joint proprioreceptors
All Bowen moves done around a joint directly affect the joint and ligaments, which are richly innervated with proprioreceptors, those nerves that sense the position of your body.
Lymphatic circulation
The Bowen Technique stimulates lymphatic circulation and drainage.
Spinal reflexes
Many of the Bowen moves are performed along the spine over the erector muscles (two thick columns of heavy muscles on either side of the spinal column which run from the base of the pelvis to almost the full length of the spine). These moves appear to produce referred reactions to other areas of the body. Often people will mention that conditions were addressed, other than the one for which they originally sought consultation, – even though the practitioner didn't know about them (e.g., improved digestion, elimination circulation or sleep).
Fascia
The fascia, sheets of connective tissue, connect everything in the body: muscles, bones, internal organs and central nervous system. They play a major role in muscle coordination, flexibility, postural alignment and overall structural and functional integrity. Bowen move free the relationship between the fascia and the nerve, muscle or tendon being addressed.

Acupuncture points and meridians
The Bowen Technique stimulates circulation of energy and clears energetic blocks. Coincidentally, several of the moves are located along acupuncture meridians or on specific acupuncture points which are known to stimulate and balance the body’s energy.

Tom Bowen , Bowen Therapy , Bowen Technique

The Bowen Technique was developed in Australia in the 1950s by Tom Bowen , a gifted healer. Although he was untrained , he claimed his finger was able to capture the vibrations in the muscles , nerves, and soft tissues. The tension in the muscles helped him the right places , to manipulate.

Tom was a quiet and gentle man who spoke his skill with great humility . He called it a " gift from God " and opened a clinic in the city of Geelong , Victoria, Australia in the 1950s. where he treated thousands of people each year .

In 1973 , in an interview with an Australian parliamentary committee looking into complementary medicine , said that he Bowen treats about 280 patients per week - a total of 13,000 patients per year! He claimed a 88 % success rate.

Once a month he ran a free clinic for children with disabilities and on Saturday night he opened the clinic, dedicated to injured football player .

To read the signs on the wall of his clinic :

"I expect through this world but once happen ,
any good thing therefore that I do,
or any kindness that I can show to any fellow human beings ,
let me do it now.
Do not let me defer or neglect it ,
for I shall not pass this way again . "

The Bowen Technique was the world thanks to the efforts of Oswald and Elaine Rentsch , the set Tom Bowen's work and documents the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia in the late 1980s .

What is Bowen technique therapy ?

What is Bowen technique therapy ?

Bowen therapy

The Bowen technique is an alternative body style named after the Australian Thomas Ambrose Bowen (Tom Bowen ) ( 1916-1982 ) .

Bowen had no formal medical training and described his approach as a "gift of God" . He describes himself as an osteopath and tried to join the Australian Register of Osteopaths in 1981 , but did not qualify for the title. He died as a non-recognized practitioners of manual therapy . At the same time , in 1975 , some years before his death , a public inquiry (Government of Victoria , Australia) reported that Bowen treated an estimated 13,000 patients per year , with a 80 percent success rate in symptoms that were associated with a wide range conditions. It was not until some years after his death , that the term " Bowen Technique " was invented. The technique has been popularized observed by some of the six men who were with him at work , Oswald Rentsch , an osteopath whose interpretation which are dominant, but not unchallenged form. Learning the technique has been reported as required 120 hours teaching or as easily learned in a " weekend workshop " .

As of 2009, there were 26,000 practitioners worldwide . The technique goes by a variety of names, including : fascial therapy , Smart Bowen , fascia Kinetics , neuro structural integration ( NST) , fascia Bowen and Bowen work .

Each session usually includes gentle movements along the muscles , tendons and fascia . The treatment of the distinguishing features are added , the minimal nature of the physical intervention and breaks in treatment. Proponents claim these breaks allows the body to " reset" itself .

Bowen not to document his technique , and as a result of their practice after his death , the one or the other different interpretation of his work pursued. In 1973, Bowen had himself referred to his ability " an average of 65 patients per day," but the art as practiced today can not reach general , this kind of throughput.

A 2011 systematic review in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine concluded that the Bowen technique is a " a useful CAM practice " , but commented negatively on the quality of the available research material , and said, "it is obvious that further research is necessary to test this instrument systematically , can be given before a general recommendations . " Quackwatch contains " NST ( Bowen Therapy ) " in the list of " questionable treatments.

Extract from the 2 DVD set "Applying the Bowen Technique", produced in association with the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia, presented by John Wilks, a Bowen teacher for ten years, and filmed by a former BBC film-maker. These are not for training, but rather aim to help Bowen therapists and students apply their skills. They include a short film introducing Bowen, tests and techniques for assessing clients and then a series of real life case studies.

What is Therapy ?

In psychotherapy help , psychologists, people of all ages live happier , healthier and more productive lives. There are several approaches to psychotherapy , including cognitive-behavioral , interpersonal, and psychodynamic , that people help among other things to work on their problems. Psychotherapy is a Gemeinschaftsbehandlungauf basis of the relationship between a person and a psychologist. A psychologist provides a supportive environment that you open with someone , objective, neutral and non-judgmental to talk to.
